Random May pics...

Baby girl is PASSED OUT on her favorite pillow, Daddy! I mean, she looks like she could just take off. She is walking really well behind anything with wheels, and cruises like a maniac holding on to stuff. She will not even attempt to take a step though without support...
This is Oliver every day. He LOVES to push his fire truck around the house, making siren sounds and putting out imaginary fires. Yep, think I'll take a bite of this! Little miss still only has 2 little teeth. By the end of May, she was teething full force! I wonder when those silly teeth will pop through?? Evie is thoroughly enjoying real food. She ALWAYS eats with her little feet hooked under the edge of her tray.HI!! "I'm workin'. Sendin' e-mails. Ollie's at the office." He talks every day about Daddy working at his office sending e-mails (apparently that's what Jon does at work all day...), and he wanted to get in on it one weekend when Jon had his work computer up. Evie's first pasta. Delicious! It gets a round of applause! Bouncy balls are so fun! Eating popcorn in the laundry basket. Good stuff.

Crazy May!

The last few weeks have been a blur! Between running to Elkhart for a surprise visit, a "big, big, big party" (Oliver's words), the Indy 500 and my birthday, May ended quickly!

On the 25th, we drove up to Elkhart for the evening as it was Mom and Dad's last choir concert before their retirement! We went up and listened to their 7th and 8th graders sing, then had a quick dinner at Hacienda before heading back to Indy. It was fun to see their faces when they pulled up and saw us in the West Side Middle School parking lot!

Ollie "makin' the bloons dance" during the concert. Giving Papa a big hug! The whole gang at Hacienda. Well, Jon was taking the picture...
The 28th we had our annual pre-race cookout before the 500. We had about 30 people plus kids come over this year. It was a fun afternoon! On Sunday we headed to the Indy 500 with 16 of our friends. It was a fun time, as always!

Tailgating before the big race.View from our seats. Stealth bomber flyover during the National Anthem. This year we sat on the front straight away, so the pits were in front of us. Pretty cool stuff! Monday was my birthday. We visited the pool at the JCC, and I got sushi for dinner. Yum! Oliver ate my birthday cupcake for me. I also got surprised with tickets to Glee in Concert. What a fabulous birthday!

May fun!

We had a couple of great May playdates with old friends. The first was when my friend Jenny from college came into town with her sweet baby Will. We were joined by other sorority sisters Jayme and Alyson who brought her little guy Cason. It was such a great night to catch up (thanks to Jon for helping out with the kiddos), and Oliver and Cason got along great!

Jayme, me, Jenny and Alyson Cason holding Will, Ollie holding Evie Cason and Ollie eating watermelon
Our second playdate outing was with my favorite nursing school friends Steph and Holly. We have all been crazy busy, and haven't gotten together in awhile, but we made a date to hit the zoo with Emma, MacKenna, Oliver, Eva, and Addison.

Emma, Oliver and a penguin, up close and personal! Ollie running on his favorite bridge!
Sharing snacks with MacKenna
On the choo-choo
I'm not sure why I don't have any pictures of cutie-pie Addi. We will have to get together again very soon!

Double Doctor's appt, take 2!

The last time we had a double check-up, I was still a crazy new mommy figuring out how to juggle two kids. Here they are waiting for their 2 month and 2 year appointments:

Things were a little less hectic this time, and the kids are looking a bit different too...

They sat nicely and looked at books while we waited for Dr. Bergstein. They look so much alike in these pictures!! Dr. B was very impressed by both of them. They are ahead of their milestones, and growing great!!

I was asked if Eva could:

  • Crawl (yes, at 5.5 months)

  • Pull herself up to standing (yep, 6 months, and she is standing unassisted these days

  • say consonants (dada, baba, ol-ol-ol) This had Dr. B. excited. She thinks E will be an early talker. I think so too!!

I was asked if Ollie could:

  • count to 5 (yep, he can make it to at least 15)

  • string 3 words together (he speaks in complete sentences when he feels like it, and sings songs all of the time...)

  • She also said that 60% of what he says should be understood by anyone. I think he's at least at 60%...

As for their stats, Evie is still long and lean. She is 29 inches long (92nd percentile), and 18 pounds, 5 oz (40th percentile) Ollie "shrunk" (fell off of his height curve), but Dr. B and Dorothy, her nurse, both think he wasn't standing up straight. He is 36.25 inches tall (40th percentile), and 33 pounds (80th percentile). His weight is on the same curve as last time, so she wasn't worried at all about it. Hopefully he will stand up straighter at his next appointment so we can get a real height on him! I know he has grown, because a lot of his pants are too short!

Oliver was such a good boy at his appointment, he got ice cream on the way home. He cooperated very well, opening his mouth when Dr. B asked and not making a peep when she listened to him or looked in his ears. We did have some tears from Evie, but she is in the midst of "stranger danger" right now and really just likes to be around her mommy. She only had to get one immunization, and only cried for a minute. The next time we go back will be for her one year appointment. I can't believe it!!

Indianapolis Air Show

The Indianapolis Air Show was this past weekend. We are so glad that we decided to go on Saturday, when it was partly sunny and 70, as opposed to Sunday when it was raining and 50! It was a great day to spend outside, and we had so much fun checking out all of the planes and helicoptors. Oliver was thrilled!

Checking out the planes. Oliver in a Black Hawk helicopter. Flying a chopper! First corn on the cob of the season. Delish! Watching the show. Playing with the bunny on the stroller. You can only watch planes for so long... The Heavy Metal jet team. They were pretty awesome.
You know it was a good day when you find this in the backseat... We stopped down the street in the Burger King parking lot to watch the Blue Angels since Oliver and Eva fell asleep. My big kid was thrilled! We tried to sneak Ollie up to his bed after the show, but found him like this "reading" a book about planes. Yes, he took the cushions off of his chair to use as a step stool to reach his books on his dresser. Very resourceful.

New shoes!

After taking a 9 month hiatus from having to visit the shoe store, I finally decided it was time to bite the bullet and head over to our favorite Stride Rite to buy the kids new shoes. Ollie has never complained about his shoes being too tight, but we did go buy them when Evie was 2 weeks old, and his feet had to have grown in that time period. Grow they did. He went from a size 8 to a 9. I am boring, and got him the exact same Saucony tennis shoes as he has had the last two times. Hey, he runs like a champ in them, so why switch it up? I continued on my boring streak by buying him the exact Keen sandals (green camo) as he had last summer. He is a Haug, he needs a little camo in his life!!

Evie cried her little eyes out when they measured her feet, which are so long and skinny! She measured 3 1/2, and we bought her her first pair of big girl shoes in a size 4! Unlike her brother who has always had extra wide feet, she only needed the wide. She has been standing like a champ in them!

Sweet girl, you'd better watch out... You never know when there is going to be a shark attack!!

Happy Mother's Day!

This was my third Mother's Day, which is so hard to even imagine; and it was bigger and better than ever (maybe because I have 2 kiddos this year)! We had a fabulous day consisting of church, brunch at Shulas, naps for everyone, and a nice family walk. I feel so blessed to be Oliver and Eva's mommy, and love them both so much! They gave me the most beautiful card, and some fabulous shoes! Happy Mother's Day to all of the mommys out there, hope you all had a wonderful day too.

My other Mother's Day gift: it only took 9 months, but I finally got a picture where they are both looking at the camera and smiling!! My awesome card that Oliver threw at me while yelling "Happy Mother's Day" and running off away! I think Jon may be a closet preschool teacher or something. I'm not sure how he was able to dip both kids in paint and make a card all at the same time. I'm so impressed!!

9 months old

Yes, it's true, Eva has hit the 9-month mark! Again, it was tough to get a picture of her as she is very busy and doesn't have the time to sit still. She is still very active, and starting to stand on her own more and more! I think her first steps will come soon. She continues to eat a ton, like 6 containers of food along with cheerios, puffs, and other finger foods as well as nursing 5 times daily. She has never met a food that she wouldn't eat! She is sleeping through the night most nights now. She loves to talk, and loves to sing! If you sing to her, she will respond with a big "aaaaaaaahhhhh". She continues to be such a smiley, happy girl. Eating one of Oliver's trains, a favorite pastime.
Sumo squat! It's her Japanese blood coming out.
I'm going to eat this number off of my shirt!!

Free standing!
Silly goose.
